Outcome 1A.
Knowledge of learners from biological, physical, social, and psychological science perspectives.
Perspective on Teaching/Learning Theories
There are many foundational theories behind teaching, but I tend to lean more towards the humanistic approach that engages the whole person in education and the premise that learning is self-initiated. The behaviorist principles of active learning and positive reinforcement are also fundamental qualities of a solid learning experience. In regards to the cognitive orientation to learning, I understand the importance of linking prior knowledge to new knowledge and the necessity for differentiating between the cognitive mental processes for various types of learners in order for higher learning to occur.
